Why Do We Close Our Eyes?

One of the things that makes Be Me Hum a little different is that there are times when we practise with our eyes closed. And there is a reason for that. The moment we close our eyes, something changes. We stop looking around the room. We stop wondering what everyone else is doing. We stop checking whether we’re doing it “right”. There is nobody to copy. Nobody to keep up with. Nobody to compare ourselves with. Instead, our attention begins to turn inward. How does this movement feel in my body? How does my body want to move today? What happens when I stop watching myself from the outside and simply experience myself from within? For so much of our lives, we are looking outward. At other people. At expectations. At who we think we should be. For a little while, Be Me Hum asks us to stop looking out there… and turn towards ourselves. Not to judge what we find. Not to change it. Just to feel. To breathe. To move. To hum. And simply be. Maybe sometimes we need to close our eyes to remember who we are.

When Words Begin to Move

Something beautiful can happen when an affirmation is spoken and the body begins to move with the words. The words sink in. The body listens. Movement creates rhythm. Repetition allows us to go deeper. And the affirmation no longer floats only in the mind — it finds somewhere to land.

It becomes less about saying something beautiful and more about feeling something true. This is part of the heart of Be Me Hum — moving with words, breathing with intention, and creating space to simply be. Nothing to perfect. Nothing to prove. Just a gentle remembering.

The Story Behind the Be Me Hum Symbol

There is a story hidden inside the Be Me Hum symbol. At its centre is the bee — representing harmony, rhythm, connection and the hum. Above it is the star — guidance, and the inner light and wisdom that are already within us. The circle represents presence — returning to this moment. The wings form an infinity symbol — the continuous flow of breath, movement and sound. The triangle represents alignment — bringing mind, body and heart together. And at the centre is the heart — love.

And beneath the symbol are the words: Breathe • Move • Hum • Simply Be

Because ultimately, Be Me Hum isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about coming back to who you already are.

So this little bee is more than a logo.

For me, it is a reminder.

Remember who you are.

What If Nothing Was Ever Missing?

Think about a gum nut. Inside that tiny seed is everything it needs to become a magnificent gum tree. It doesn’t need to be taught how to grow roots, how to reach towards the light or how to become a gum tree. There is an intelligence within it that already knows. And that intelligence never leaves. It is there in the seed. It is there in the sapling. And it is still there in the great gum tree. The gum tree doesn’t look across at another tree and wonder whether it should have grown differently. It doesn’t compare itself or spend its life searching outside itself for something that will make it complete. It simply unfolds what was there all along. And perhaps we are not so different. Beneath all the expectations, comparing, striving and searching, perhaps there is still something within us that knows. Maybe our journey isn’t about becoming someone else. Maybe it is about remembering what has been there all along. Nothing is missing. Nothing needs fixing. Nothing needs proving. This is at the heart of Be Me Hum. I remember who I am. I am home.

The Simple Things

Sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring us back to ourselves.

Gentle movement.

A conscious breath.

The vibration of a soft hum.

A moment of stillness.

Closing our eyes and simply allowing ourselves to feel.

And the quiet joy of sharing that experience with others.

When movement, breath, sound, stillness and connection come together, something beautiful can happen.

We slow down.

The noise becomes quieter.

We become more present.

And somewhere underneath all the busyness of life, we begin to remember.

You don’t need anything complicated.

A few conscious breaths.

A gentle stretch.

A soft hum.

A moment of gratitude.

Small practices.

Simple moments.

A way of coming back to what was there all along.

This is at the heart of what I practise and share through Be Me Hum.

I remember who I am. I am home.

Come exactly as you are.
